Whether you’re throwing a lavish wedding or a simple child’s birthday party, desserts are an excellent alternative to traditional gifts and trinkets that are often given to guests as tokens of thanks. I’ve found that the traditional mementos given as favors usually end up being a waste of money: people simply aren’t interested in keeping shot glasses from the weddings they’ve attended over the years.
Enter the dessert table. Dessert–or any food item for that matter–makes an excellent parting gift for guests. You can tailor your edible favors to the theme of your event. Having a fall wedding? Give your guests a delicious popcorn treat as favors. Throwing a train-themed birthday party for your son? Put together a choo-choo wheel snack as a favor. Treats such as cookies and cupcakes work with any theme.
Here’s a picture of a desert table I put together for a bridal shower. The party colors were black, white and hot pink, so we incorporated black and white dotted fabric as well as pink treats such as rock candy and pink “roses” made of chocolate. Touches like the colorful gumballs, chocolate chip cookie “lollipops” and conversation hearts were fun and playful. Chinese takeout boxes, customized with ribbon and personalized stickers, served as perfect containers for guests to fill with goodies before leaving.
We offer various party decorating services at VDI that allow you to enjoy your party rather than be bogged down with the details. We will place centerpieces and flowers, set the table, and of course, create lovely favor vignettes for your guests to enjoy.
