Julie contacted me when it was time to update her kitchen. She and her husband, Mark, were looking for a classic, white kitchen with a clean feel and modern touches.
The kitchen, like so many others from the late 80’s, had bulky fluorescent lighting, and the linoleum floors featured a floral print that matched the mauve counters. It was time for an update. Check out the kitchen before:
After talking with Julie and Mark, it was clear that the kitchen’s layout was functional for them. The peninsula provides extra seating and the window above the sink lets in natural light and provides a nice view into the back yard. What this kitchen needed was an update, not an overhaul.
Julie and Mark knew they wanted white cabinets, which meant the old cabinets had to go. They had also decided they wanted to go with hardwood flooring. I recommended my Color & Finishes package and we got to work!
The bulky lighting was taken down and replaced with ultra-functional can lights. They provide a lot more light and since they’re recessed into the ceiling, they don’t take up visual space. To keep things classic, Carrara marble and brushed stainless finishes were used. The pattern of the backsplash, along with the grayish paint, provided the modern touches Julie was looking for.

What a difference! Julie was very receptive to ideas, which made her fantastic to work with! She was also kind enough to write me the nicest testimonial:
“I cannot recommend Vanessa from Vanessa D Interiors highly enough for your next home decorating project. She transformed my dark, drab, traditional 80’s colonial kitchen into a bright and beautiful contemporary version of itself. In my mind, her biggest contributions came in the details – her suggestion to go with smaller, unique shaped Carrara marble tiles for our backsplash was so unique and different from what I originally thought I wanted, but it’s one of my favorite features against our new white cabinets. She and her team’s lighting vision dramatically transformed my fluorescent tic-tac-toe ceiling light grid (don’t ask!) into a gorgeous tray ceiling with crown moulding and strategically placed can lights. The light gray walls tie it all together. From our initial consultation to the final completion, Vanessa was so friendly and easy to talk to. She listened to my ideas and quickly picked up what I was going for – her custom Pinterest style boards for my project were fabulous so helpful for inspiration when we were trying to nail down final details. She found things that I LOVED and never would have looked at in isolation, but she just knew how to make them look fabulous in the room. Finally, she is very reasonably priced – especially for all the services she provides. Can’t wait to work with her again on my next project.”
Thank you, Julie and Mark, for signing me on to your kitchen project! I know you’re enjoying your space!
